Susan Thorne MRCVS
Susan is our senior AVDC resident.
Originally from rural Argyll in Scotland, Susan graduated from the University of Aberdeen BSc (Hons) in Zoology in 2006 before continuing her studies at Glasgow University Veterinary School, where she graduated in 2013. During her University vacations she visited Africa several times, studying toothy predators from lions to Great White sharks.
After some time in mixed general practice, Susan joined DentalVets in 2015 as a full time resident in the American Veterinary Dental College programme working towards board certification and specialist status. She is a key member of our clinical staff and training team. Her hobbies range from competitive sailing in the summer to skiing in the winter.
Karen joined us in February 2014 as an addition to our veterinary nursing team.
She qualified as an RVN in 2011 from Telford College in Edinburgh. Before joining us she spent eight years at a busy veterinary practice in Edinburgh in a number of challenging roles including theatre management, dental nurse support and the out-of-hours emergency clinic.
She is a native of Dunbar in East Lothian and now lives in Berwickshire. Her hobbies include travel, cooking and running (sort of)…!
Amy joined us as a veterinary nurse in May 2016. She was born and bred in East Lothian. She qualified from the Edinburgh College as an RVN in 2014. She worked for the last two years at a large mixed practice in East Lothian before moving to us.
Her hobbies include traveling and riding her horses - Mokey and Onyx. She also has two cats (Millie and Topaz) and Springer Spaniel called Omar.
Kathleen joined DentalVets in 2007 and provides reception and secretarial skills to our organisation. She is the front-of house contact clients see and hear first on the telephone and in person. She has extensive local knowledge and can provide information and assist on what to do in North Berwick for the day. If you require help with booking a pet-friendly B&B or hotel she can provide a list updated regularly.
Jo joined us in January 2014 as a receptionist/book-keeper. She spent nine years with a Midlothian veterinary practice and, during that spell, qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1999 from Edinburgh's Telford College.
After working ultimately as head nurse and practice administrator, she changed career and joined the computer company Veterinary Solutions in 2005 on the support team for Unix and Windows based practice management systems. She also obtained levels 1 and 2 certificates from the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers in 2009. However she missed daily contact with animals and their owners so decided to move back into veterinary practice. She lives in East Lothian with her young family and two lively St. Bernard dogs.
Claire graduated with BSc honours in Veterinary Nursing from Edinburgh Napier University in 2005 and has both trained and worked in a number of practices in East Lothian and Edinburgh. She moved to the new challenge of a referral practice in 2007.
She is a native of East Lothian, having been educated at Knox Academy before applying for graduate veterinary nurse training.
She became the first member of the Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians outside North America in July 2013 having successfully concluded the rigorous credential process over two years and passing the qualifying examinations. These took place in Nevada, USA in June 2013. As a result, Claire is now uniquely qualified within the specialty as the only veterinary nurse in the UK (and outside North America) with a veterinary dental qualification recognised by a national regulatory body - another UK first for DentalVets.
