Norman Johnston FRCVS

Norman Johnston qualified from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh, UK in 1976 and is clinical director of DentalVets.

His credentials as a veterinary dental specialist are unique as he is a diplomate of both the American and European Veterinary Dental Colleges and also a current  registered RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Dentistry. In addition he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

He holds an honorary lectureship in the Veterinary Faculty of Glasgow University Veterinary School and is an Honorary Fellow (Dentistry) of the University of Edinburgh.

He is a past president and board member of the European Veterinary Dental College and also served two terms as president of the British Veterinary Dental Association from 1991 to 1995. He is a past board member of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry. He served as a director (2003 - 2009) and chairman (2007-2009) of VETTrust - a veterinary charity dedicated to providing help with providing  continuing education resources to needy individuals.

In 1997 he received the Simon Award from the British Small Animal Veterinary Association for outstanding contributions in the field of veterinary surgery.

Fiona Johnston MRCVS

Fiona Johnston graduated from Glasgow University Veterinary School in 1991. She spent seventeen years in small animal practice and is practice manager of DentalVets with particular responsibility for administration, education and training.

Her special interests in general practice, in addition to dentistry, are cardiology, radiology and feline medicine. Since 1996 she has taught numerous veterinary dental and veterinary undergraduate courses in the UK and Europe.

Susan Thorne MRCVS

Susan is our senior AVDC resident.

Originally from rural Argyll in Scotland, Susan graduated from the University of Aberdeen  BSc (Hons) in Zoology in 2006 before continuing her studies at Glasgow University Veterinary School, where she graduated in 2013. During her University vacations she visited Africa several times, studying toothy predators from lions to Great White sharks.

After some time in mixed general practice, Susan joined DentalVets in 2015 as a full time resident in the American Veterinary Dental College programme working towards board certification and specialist status. She is a key member of our clinical staff and training team. Her hobbies range from competitive sailing in the summer to skiing in the winter. She recently took on the challenge of a Vizsla pup.

Piotr Godziebiewski MRCVS

After qualifying from Warsaw University in 2006, Piotr started his veterinary career in mixed practice in Poland.

In 2012 he relocated to the UK, where he worked in small animal practices in Hampshire and West Sussex and discovered veterinary dentistry. Over the next 5 years he developed his skills attending courses in the UK and Sweden before joining DentalVets as a full time AVDC resident.

Outside of work Piotr enjoys a good book, cooking and spending time with his wife, young son and a rescued three-legged Siberian husky. They all like hiking and outdoor activities. Piotr is  addicted to blue water sailing.


Claire Harrison

Claire graduated with BSc honours in Veterinary Nursing  from Edinburgh Napier University in 2005 and has both trained and worked in a number of practices in East Lothian and Edinburgh. She moved to the new challenge of a referral practice joining DentalVets in 2007.

She is a native of East Lothian, having been educated at Knox Academy before applying for graduate veterinary nurse training.

She became the first member of the Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians outside North America in July 2013 having successfully concluded the rigorous credential process over two years and passing the qualifying examinations. These took place in Nevada, USA in June 2013. As a result, Claire is now uniquely qualified within the specialty as the only veterinary nurse in the UK (and outside North America) with a veterinary dental qualification recognised by a  national regulatory body - another UK first for DentalVets.

Karen Roberts

Karen joined us in February 2014 as an addition to our veterinary nursing team.

She qualified as an RVN in 2011 from Telford College in Edinburgh. Before joining us she spent eight years at a busy veterinary practice in Edinburgh in a number of  roles including theatre management, dental nurse support and the challenge of a busy out-of-hours emergency clinic. 

She is a native of Dunbar in East Lothian and now lives in Berwickshire. Her hobbies include travel, cooking and running (sort of)…!


Jo Barron

Jo joined us in January 2014 as a receptionist/book-keeper. She spent nine years with a Midlothian veterinary practice and, during that spell, qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1999 from  Edinburgh's Telford College.

After working ultimately as head nurse and practice administrator, she changed career and joined the computer company  Veterinary Solutions in 2005 on the support team for Unix and Windows based practice management systems. She also obtained levels 1 and 2 certificates from the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers in 2009. However she missed daily contact with animals and their owners so decided to move back into veterinary practice. She became receprion manager in 2017. 

She lives loccaly with her young family and dogs.
